| Description: |
| The Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router combines the functionalities of three devices into a single device, a wireless access point, a four-port full-duplex 10/100 Mbps switch and a router. The wireless access point lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network while the switch connects your wired-Ethernet devices together. The router function ties it all together by letting your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The push button setup feature makes it easy to configure your wireless devices. The router serves as a DHCP server, includes an SPI firewall to protect against Internet intruders and also supports VPN pass-through. The WRT54GL even features TKIP and AES to protect your data and privacy with up to 128-bit encryption. With the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers and multi-player games with flexibility, speed, security and simplicity. Works great and is highly configurable, May 29, 2008
By user (USA)
I only give this product a 5 because of the vast community that is out their using it and making modifications for it (OpenWRT, DD-WRT, and my favorite Tomato firmware - very very fast. Sveasoft also has one, but its slower than Tomato it seems to me.) Linksys tech support is non-existant - so before buying any linksys product make sure their is a product base out their for it and make a test call (to India support) - email etc. to make sure you can receive adequate support before buying ANYTHING Linksys (Cisco). If you can, you have a chance, even technically gurus need help from time to time.

Excellent Consumer Router, May 29, 2008
By user (USA)
While more expensive than most consumer routers, this one is worth it. If you have a router that often drops wireless connections or has a poor interface, consider upgrading to this one.
It comes with decent firmware and interface, but also can be updated with open source firmware. This is a great option for the more advanced user who wants to have more control over the unit.

Great Choice, May 27, 2008
By user (Baltimore, MD)
This is my second wireless router, my second Linksys and I am most pleased. Actually, the only points to evaluate this product are (1) setup and (2) reliability. My first unit was one of the first out off of the show room floor. The one that I just bought has a very user friendly and simple setup. The warnings to "Run Disk First" are strategically placed so that you can't make an error. Connections and labels are crystal clear. Any down fall would be if it were to....stop working over the next 3 years, but I don't anticipate that since my first unit lasted almost 5 years. A great unit.

DD-WRT makes this a great router, May 27, 2008
By user
This product works great with DD-WRT. The firmware upgrade was a simple 2 step process and has been working great ever since.

Great Product, simple and straightforward, May 24, 2008
By user
We've been using wireless router's that were provided to us from verizon for the past 3 years. First DSL, the FiOs, and they all had their problems. We moved and had to get a new wireless router and the wrt54GL has been great. I haven't even had to do anything with it since I first set it up.
I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for an a/b/g wireless router.

Good and Customizable, May 21, 2008
By user (Ccs, Venezuela)
I am glad now that I have this router with me. I just installed dd-wrt on it and it works smooth... I totally recommend this one.

crappy. avoid., May 12, 2008
By user (Eating the big apple)
It often fails on establishing connection when I start my PC.
It's nothing to do with my PC. Only rebooting the darn router will solve the darn issue. You can imagine how it becomes really annoying over times.
My humble suggestion to miserable wrt54gl users: don't turn off your PC if you hate the trip to your router.

Worth the money!, May 9, 2008
By user
At first I bought the cheap Belkin wireless router thinking I would save myself a few bucks. Bad idea. I could have been within 5 feet of the thing and lose the signal repeatedly. So, I bought this one and it has been smooth sailing ever since. Highly recommended. I am very pleased with the purchase.

A very difficult company to deal with, May 6, 2008
By user (Weehawken, New Jersey United States)
This is a bad company. I purchased a wireless router from them and, truth be told, it never really worked right. The speed was ok, but it was impossible to set up without tech support and every so often it would simply stop working. When that happened I would be forced to call tech support and spend 30-60 minutes on the phone fighting with them about resetting the router. I recently purchased a new computer and decided to save a little money by moving this router to it. When I called tech support I was told that the router was out of its warranty period and they could not help me... unless I would pay them to. That's right, I would have to pay for the assistance on their product - a working product because it was not under warranty.
So be warned that you are only buying the option to use Linksys' products for a limited time - that is if you have any problems whatsoever that require tech support. I am now trying a Trendnet. Let's see if they are any better.

Great buy, May 5, 2008
By user (ADELPHI, MD United States)
I am a health professional and have the least knowledge regarding tech gadgets. When we bough a new laptop,I decided to go wireless and bought this router. I was nervous having heard some tough tales of programming, security, etc. However, this router was as easy as 1-2-3. I even added a security enabled network. Great experience!

Absolutely wonderful, April 25, 2008
By user
Setup was flawless and a no brainer. Works perfectly, not requiring a daily (or more often) reboot like my previous wireless router. Good range and you can change the firmware to do all sorts of custom stuff - I'm not doing that yet, but I love the idea that I have that option.

Great Router for open firmware., April 25, 2008
By user
This is a great router if you want to run linux-based firmware (such as DD-wrt or Open-wrt). However, the wrt54GS router also supports DD-wrt has more memory, is cheaper, and basically has all the same functionality. If I were to do this over again, I'd go for the wrt54GS instead.

It just works..., April 16, 2008
By user (Pomona, California USA)
Plugged it in, went into the admin, tweaked everything the way I liked, and since then for the last 2 months it's been humming along merrily with no intervention whatsoever. It even seems that my wired/wireless internet are both a tad faster than my old BEFSX41/WAP54G combo I had running earlier. I like the fact too that there's active development of third party firmware's out there, though I'm using the latest Linksys firmware still. Overall, a good buy for power user or amateur alike!

Linksys observations, April 15, 2008
By user (Greenwich, CT)
My 3 yr old Linksys router used only with pc's worked reasonably well, but did crash from time to time. The real problem surfaced when I purchased a MAC notebook-the system crashed every time I opened the MAC. This problem has been resolved with the Linksys WRT54GL. The response is fast and has not crashed once since I got it. So, for someone looking for a router that is compatible with both pc's and MAC, this product has worked well for me.

Excellent Router, April 14, 2008
By user
This router does what I want it to do. Works great, easy installation. The directions made it easy to install. Just follow the directions and you can't go wrong. Took me about 10 minutes to figure out all the specifications. I even hooked it up to my PS3 and it works really well. No hang ups, lag, or interruptions. If you're looking for a router look no further this purchase is great, can't go wrong.

Excellent Router, April 12, 2008
By user
Bought this router to replace my 5 year old Linksys 802.11b router. Installation was very easy. Connected it to my DSL modem and Mac Pro and then configured it via the web interface. Once it was set up and I verified that my Mac was connecting fine, I added in my wife's PC and my Macbook Pro laptop running MacOSX and Ubuntu Linux. All up and running, encrypted and w/ wireless MAC address restrictions, in less than 1/2 hour. Very happy w/ how easy it was to set up. Highly recommended. Note: the included software is for Windows only so if you are running Linux or Mac, you'll need to set it up via the web interface.

Easy and fast setup...., April 8, 2008

I just wired everything up, installed the software, made a few technical adjustments, and it was all up and running. I personally prefer DLink, but this product from Linksys really impressed me.

I wished some other company made these!, April 7, 2008
By user
Unfortunately I had to find out the hard way that the old WRT54G is not the same as it used to be. In most areas of computing the technology has improved but not this one. In fact, the WRT54GL is the old WRT54G that is now packaged under a new designation. The junk that took its place is too light to make a good paper weight and utterly useless as a router. If you had a Linksys router and find yourself in the market for a new one, buy this one and load third party software on it because Linksys does not really understand or care how important your router is now.
I only wish I could rate Linksys here as well. I'd give no stars for baiting me into buying their junk boxes. They no longer have real customer support. You have to contact their support through online chat and since most of us have a router in place as an integral part of our internet connection, it is impossible to communicate issues to their support when you are having an issue. I had a rep ask me to make changes in my router setting that I'm sure he knew would disconnect me from their CS chat system.
I wish there was a comparable router from a better company!
